Do I Need A Permit?
Are you planning a renovation or new construction project? Find out if you need a local permit by starting here, Charlotte Zoning FAQs, or contact the Zoning Administrator, zoningadmin@townofcharlotte.com, or call 802-425-3533 ext. 207 during business hours.
Use this online tool to see if you need a state permit: State Permit Navigator. Do you have a project on or near the Lake Champlain shoreline (including tree removal)? If so, your project may need to register with the state of Vermont, or obtain a state permit. See: VT Shoreline Protection Act Standards.
If you have an active farm that meets all state of VT criteria for Required Agricultural Practices (RAPs) and you plan to build a new farm structure that directly supports farming operations, see if your project is exempt from local permitting by completing this online form, Farm Determination Form, and this Charlotte Farm Structure Exemption form.
